CEC Kargil meets HM for addressing developmental, linguistic demandsChairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Dr Jaffer Akhoon met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address developmental and linguistic demands for the Union Territory of Ladakh. Dr Akhoon strongly demanded for the inclusion of Purgi/Balti as the first official languages of Ladakh, highlighting that over 62% of the population uses these languages. He emphasized the importance of preserving the linguistic heritage of the region. Additionally, he called for the recognition of Sheena/Dardi as an additional official language to represent the diverse linguistic culture of Kargil. The CEC also put forth a demand for the creation of two new districts in Ladakh – one for the Sankoo Sub Division and another for Shakar Chiktan -Shargole Sub Division. He stated that the move would enhance administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to the people in these areas. |
