Tashi Namgyal commemorated on 77th Army Day in Leh

On the occasion of the 77th Army Day, the Indian Army paid tribute to Tashi Namgyal, a resident of Garkon Village in Ladakh’s Aryan Valley, for his crucial role during the 1999 Kargil War.

A remembrance plate was placed in his honour at the Biamah War Memorial, commemorating his contribution to the nation’s defence. In May 1999, Namgyal spotted individuals in Pathani attire constructing bunkers atop the Jubar Ridge while searching for his missing yaks.

Recognizing the threat, he immediately alerted the nearest Indian Army unit, enabling swift action that played a vital role in India’s victory during the Kargil conflict.
